interactive city installation - shared project of Łódź Design Festival and Romanian Design Week | 2025
During Łódź Design Festival 2025, we presented the first results of the joint project between Łódź Design Festival and Romanian Design Week.
As part of the ongoing POLAND–ROMANIA 2024–2025 Culture Season, organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, with the support of the Polish Institute in Bucharest, the Ministry of Culture of Romania, and the Romanian Cultural Institute, the two festivals invited architects and designers to collaborate. They prepared projects that draw attention to the cities where the festivals take place, proposing solutions that will improve the quality of life for residents.
One idea, two installations, two cities, one message.
In May, residents of Bucharest and Łódź had the opportunity to test interactive urban installations, designed with the intention of bringing strangers closer and creating spaces for meetings in the very heart of both cities. The project, developed jointly by Romanian and Polish architects, carries a shared message: public space should foster a sense of belonging, and interventions of this kind are key to building the relationship of residents with their cities.
In Bucharest, the installation is located on Calea Victoriei – a representative avenue that turns into a pedestrian zone on weekends, becoming an open space for meetings and discovering the city.
In Łódź, the project will be tested in various locations – it began its journey through the city at WOŚP Square, where it served participants of the Urban Future 2025 conference and the Local Government Climate Congress, and then facilitated closeness for the audiences of the Łódź Design Festival.
This is the beginning of the journey; until the end of October 2025, the installation will be available in many spaces in Łódź and during the most important city events.
Both projects will be presented until the end of October 2025.
